Art is a conceptual game. Everyone thought we were playing when we brought to Greece the visual artist Thomas Iser who, throughout our event, started taking polaroids for a project inspired by the Japanese notion of kintsugi, the art of repairing broken pottery with the use of lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold. These polaroids were used in the form of puzzle pieces to create different works of art, destined among others for the Notre Dame in Paris, or for the preservation of the Amazon forests. The latter includes photos of myself, Ms Marina Patouli, Ms Eirini Daifa but also of other people invited in this 3-day event, who accepted to have their photos taken. However, these works of art also include photos of Jitrois, Gigi Hadid and Willem Dafoe, among others.
Recently, the artist used a significant number of polaroids from people he met in Greece to create planet Earth which is then set on fire at the respective installation, thus spreading the message that it is useless to leave behind us nothing but a black hole when the reason we came to this world is to take a positive step forward, to act in a positive and beneficial way, at all times.
The artist sees every single person as a sculpture that at some point in time broke; it is at this particular point that the golden aspect of each Human emerges. The golden aspect is what brings each person further ahead, what makes them stronger; in combination with Iser’s eye that is added to their face in the form of a card, people and therefore any action for a good cause obtains a universal character; thus, there is a meeting of minds and a common (beneficial) course of action for people all over the word.
